REALLY happy to announce our 8th festival this year! We’ll be heading to the awesome-looking SUPERNORMAL festival on 11th August. As well the music (including Woodpecker fave David Thomas Broughton), you can enjoy some experimental art, take a hot outdoor shower, bake a ceremonial human bread loaf, and boogie on Brighton’s best Queer Dancefloor courtesy of Traumfrau. x

We’re heading up to the Sound Tracks festival tomorrow and very exciting it should be too. The Festival and taking our the city’s transport and filling the trains and tubes with live music in between venues.

You have two chances to catch the Woodpecker- one solo harp slot in an old Victorian shaft below the Brunel Museum. Artists will be there creating a live art-scape to compliment the music. Should be pretty special. Apparently you need to wear flat shoes though…

The other will be with the full band on Dalston Roof Terrace, hopefully rocking out in the sunshine (Hawaiian shirts promised)

Some Say I So I Say Light review

I first heard the half-recorded ‘Meltdown’ a few biscuits and minutes before ‘giving it a shot’ at recording a part… I’d just met Obaro (Ghostpoet) and recording team a few minutes before that, and not long before that I’d been hurtling along on a train, bespectacled and flustered, en route to a London gig of my own, no idea of the imminent and surprise change in plans…

To say, then, that on hearing the music and Obar’s mumbled guide vocals, my throat prickled instantly and my eyes filled up with tears, I hope that can give some impression of how profoundly it hit me. That is quite a feat, in my mind. Thump. Cut through everything- here is something raw and painful and beautiful. I wanted to try and convey that feeling that had been transmitted to me; to do it justice…

The snippets of other tracks I got to hear before rushing off again, were equally potent. They’ve left a lingering mark.

The Quietus reviewed the album today, and it’s an incredible and astute appraisal. I had a little cry again reading this. It’s a album for supping deeply from. Go and do it. It’s a murky beauty. xx

We survived the overnight bus journey back from Paris and made it back home to ~~lovely~~, ~~sunny~~ England.

Any post tour blues will be abated by a pretty strong remix of Ghostpoet’s single ‘Meltdown’, (with me singing on it), by Squarepusher. I’ve been a fan of the Warp crew since back in the day, so very happy to be cross-pollinating this way…

Put on some visorsz, maybe eat a cornichon and do a shot and pretend you’re in Germany, 1982 (that’s what I’m doing).

In support of World TB day, raising awareness and funds for TB sufferers, the magical Italo-Slovenian village of Topolove is once again hosting a 24hr around-the-world sound marathon, today!

If you’re not nearby one of the many worldwide listening posts (libraries, schools…) then you can stream it online here. The feed is switched every 30 minutes to another performance from another country- and you have 12 hours left to enjoy…

I’m singing on the new Ghostpoet single, Meltdown, that was premiered on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show a couple of days ago.

The album, ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’ will be out on May 6th via PIAS

I’ll be joining GP tonight at Rough Trade East for the launch of there Record Day Celebrations- not sure there are any tickets left though but you never know. Meanwhile, you can wrap your earsz around a rip from the radio show here:
