Tonight’s my penultimate show, though I’m here in Italia for a few more days yet. I’m sat in the mauve-night-skied yard of Oasi San Marino- pretty much literally an oasis, crickets croaking wildly, near-full neon moon burning- on the outskirts of Acquaviva di Fonte, ’ Living Water Springs’, about 15 munutes of nothing but olive trees from Bari. As well as a venue hosting some of Italy’s top touring bands, it’s also a campsite. A band of bell-necked goats were herded past this afternoon whilst I sunbathed on the football pitch…
It’s a culture jump from Roma where we played last. Yesterday’s free day was spent sweating in the 36 degrees the city had to offer, seeking respite at the alter of Santa Teresa and watching European crows and turtles in the grounds of the Villa Borghese…
The three of us are shacking up in room together tonight a local hotel- our room has a padded white door and Baroque-inspired furniture. The Woolshop Sicilian boys are sharing the matrimonial bed and I’m on the couchette- like their child. Tomorrow night I ride the 12 hour train from south to north sleeping in the so-called ‘carozza donna confort’- translating more or less as the ‘lady comfort carriage. Yes please! x
