MUSIC AND MUSINGS BY WOODPECKER WOOLIAMS

It’s 33 degrees here in Bologna. I’m having cold wash-downs in the sink.

I played for the Odelay group last night in lovely house here in Bologna. People crammed onto the bed and I sat, sweating by the window, looking and feeling like a little girl playing in her bedroom.

About 1am we launch out onto the streets and find Linda’s bar. She’s a bold, multilingual African woman who lets students come and tell her their sorrows. It’s still crazy hot. Mojitos, Gin Lemons, and the fatal parting shot (a gift from Linda) and we stagger home.

Days like today- cycling around the narrow streets with buildings showcasing every shade of umbre, ochre and rouge- on an old, tall, elegant fixie, stopping off to browse the children’s library packed with international illustrated books with its glass floor overlooking the relics of an ancient Roman house with the sweetheart Julia, remind me just why I love touring. They also remind me of you and what could have been.
